What do we do?

Animation used to be painstakingly hand-drawn and hand-painted frame by frame on 'cels'. A cel is a transparent plastic sheet which requires a special type of paint (vinyl) that can stick to its surface. Hundreds of cels were required for just a few seconds of animation. Modern technology made animation much easier and cheaper to produce and eliminated the need for hand-painting as coloring can be done by computer. While some animation is still hand-drawn, none of it is hand-painted anymore. Cel painting was a unique process and technique that is becoming a lost art form. Through fan pieces of our favorite characters, in mash-up's and reimaginings we might never have seen, I'm hoping to keep the tradition alive… One frame at a time.

What is Cel Conversion?

Over thee years animation has moved away from it’s traditional cel panting, to either 3d animated or computer colored animation. I get it, cel painting is a long expensive process, but don’t you want to see your favorite modern animation done in a traditional way? Cel conversion is the process of taking an existing frame from an animated show or film and then recreating it using cel painting techniques.
